2011: TWiiNS - I'm still alive

The TWiiNS are Daniela and Veronika Nizlová, and were born on 15 May 1986 in the central Slovak village of Hronský Beñadik.  Daniela is married to co-songwriter Braño Jancich.

Their musical career started in 2000 as the Tweens, with an album of the same name.  Since then, they’ve released a further four albums, becoming the TWiiNS in 2009 with the album Compromise.  This album contained the cover of the Sabrina song Boys, Boys, Boys.  The are mainly now based in the USA.

The TWiiNS are no strangers to Eurovision.  In 2008 in Belgrade (when Slovakia was still absent), they performed as backing singers with Tereza Kerndlová from the Czech Republic and the song Have some fun.  This song sadly didn’t make it to the final, but they always intimated that they’d like to represent Slovakia in the future.

  • About the selection

It was initially likely that Slovakia would withdraw from the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, due to financial constraints.  After successes in the Vancouver Winter Olympics and the South Africa World Cup, plus a merger between Slovak Television (STV) and Slovak Radio (SR), the successor organisation had a reduced budget.  In 2009 and 2010 STV had organised extensive selections to find songs for Eurovision.

However, RTVS announced they would compete, but selected the song internally.  Among the shortlisted candidates was last year’s runner-up Mista, who would have performed the song Vendetta.

  • About the song

This song is about the emotions felt when a relationship breaks down.  It tells that despite things going wrong, life goes on, complete with its ups and downs.  In short, it’s a song about optimism.

  • Lyrics

No, nothing can touch me, I've seen what I can be

Lonely I've walked through the fire, but I'm still alive

(No, nothing can touch me, I've seen what I can be) I'm still alive

(Lonely I've walked through the fire)

Would you climb up a mountain?

    Would you battle the ocean?

Would you give this to lose it all?

I believe in my life and try to learn every lesson

Now I see what I've fighted for

When the road's not too wide (Not too wide)

Then trust the heart never lies (Heart never lies)

No, nothing can touch me, I've seen what I can be

Lonely I've walked through the fire, but I'm still alive

(No, nothing can touch me, I've seen what I can be) I'm still alive

(Lonely I've walked through the fire)

If you lost all meaning, no more truth to believe in

Will the light inside be great?

But if you shine like a diamond, don't get caught in the moment

Never letting your prayers slip away

When the road's not too wide (Not too wide)

Then trust the heart never lies (Heart never lies)

No, nothing can touch me, I've seen what I can be

Lonely I've walked through the fire, but I'm still alive

    (No, nothing can touch me)

(I've seen what I can be) I'm still alive

(Lonely I've walked through the fire)

(No, nothing can touch me) Nothing can touch me

(I've seen what I can be) No no no no no

(Lonely I've walked through the fire) I'm still alive

(No, nothing can touch me) I'm still alive

(I've seen what I can be) I feel alive

(Lonely I've walked through the fire)

(No, nothing can touch me) I'm still alive

(I've seen what I can be) I'm still alive

(Lonely I've walked through the fire) But I'm still alive
