2009: Lovebugs - The Highest Heights

Lovebugs are, without doubt, one of Switzerland’s most popular bands, active since 1992. The group was founded by Adrian Sieber, Sebastian Hausmann and Julie Lauper. The present day line up consists of Sieber (vocals), Thomas Riechenberger (guitar), Florian Senn (bass), Stefan Wagner (keyboards, backing vocals) and Simon Ramseier (drums).

Their main breakthrough came with the release of their debut album, Fluff. The band embarked on a European tour the following year as well as the release of their second album, Tart which went widely unnoticed. 1996 saw them finally managing to crack the Swiss charts, reaching #40 with their single Fantastic. They were then signed up to the Ariola record label. It would take another four years of hard graft before the fruits of their labour were noticed – that came in the form of their album Transatlantic Flight, which scaled the dizzying heights of #3 on the Swiss album charts. In 2001 the band repeated the success by going one further and topping the charts with their album Awaydays, spawning the smash hit single Music Makes My World Go Round.

Following a brief hiatus, the band were back with a vengeance in 2003, eager to consolidate their megastar status in Switzerland. Their album 13 Songs With A View was released but performed dissapointingly compared to the previous two efforts, only making #7 on the charts. Another two years would pass before their follow up album Naked was released, and which took them back to the top of the charts. 2006 saw the band collaborate with the popular Norwegian singer Lene Marlin on the single Avalon, charting both in Switzerland at #10 and in Norway at #27. Their album release that year, Every Waking Moment also went on to become a bestseller for the group. Due to individual project commitments within the band, another 3 year break ensued.

Lovebugs burst back onto the Swiss music scene in 2009 with their album The Highest Heights, achieving a #2 placing on the charts. The album produced two minor hits, The Highest Heights and 21st Century Man. That same year, the group also released a greatest hits retrospective album entitled Only Forever : The Best of Lovebugs. During their long career, the band have released no fewer than 12 albums and a staggering 26 singles, proving that they are without doubt, Switzerland’s premier music export.
