Merry Christmas: Eurovision Advent calendar day 3

Warm up to Christmas by listening to the beautiful carols performed by Eurovision artists. Each day until Christmas features a new act giving their version of a Christmas song. As third, we listen to Carola.

She’s a Eurovision legend, Swedish singer Carola. Three times did she represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest, won once and never did worse that a fifth place. Her victory, in 1991, came with Fångad Av En Stormvind. France and Sweden both finished with 146 points and the same amount of 12 points, but due to one more 10 point received, Carola could take home the trophy.

Carola has recorded several Christmas carols. This one is one of the most popular Christmas songs in Sweden. It is originally from 1898, and translates to ‘Now thousands of Christmas lights turns on’. It has been recorded by many artists, and is also known in neighbour countries like Finland and Denmark. The carol tells about how the dark earth is lighted up by candles in the homes, but also that people are lighted up by the message of God’s love and the birth of Jesus.
