Toppers plan to shine on the silver screen

Dutch trio De Toppers announced to Dutch media today of their plans to make a film together. Not content with concquering the Dutch music market, the multi talented trio also want to make their mark on the silver screen.

Although singer Gordon has left De Toppers since they stood on stage and sang Shine for the Netherlands at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow, the trio’s popularity shows no sign of waning just yet. With preparations for the celebrity spectacular Sterren Dansen op het Ijs in full swing and Christmas just around the corner, you’d have thought that Gerard Joling would have a packed advent calendar and time for very little else. But think again. Joling is a man who is used to juggling several projects at a time, and the prospect of another seems to have got him really excited.

Both Joling, Jeroen van der Boom and René Froger are currently toying with the idea of making a film, and judging by their statements in the media, the film will be of the thriller/suspense genre. The threesome are not known exactly for their acting talents, so they are planning on enlisting help from major names such as Tygo Gernandt to give the film some credibility. It is reported that they will be playing themselves in the film, so perhaps De Toppers and a mixture of suspense and criminal elements couls prove to be an unbeatable combination.

It wouldn’t be the first time Joling has appeared on the silver screen. He had made plans to make a film with former topper Gordon, but those plans are now firmly put on ice, with Gordon involved in numerous projects of his own. Joling has moreover had minor roles in numerous Christmas films, and he will also be starring in the romantic comedy Leve Boerenliefde, due for release in June 2013, so he’s certainly no stranger to celluloid. Surely the idea of the trio on screen practically guarantees success in the Netherlands and will be snapped up by film producers.
