SVT announces the first names for Melodifestivalen 2009

SVT has now announced the first eight singers who are going to perform at next years swedish national selection Melodifestivalen. Big and well known names here are Måns Zelmerlöw, BWO and Alcazar.

What all these singers have in common is that they also are the composers of the songs that they are going to perform.

Here follows the eight names:

Alcazar – Stay The Night

Alcazar has taken part in Melodifestivalen twice: MF 2003 and MF 2005 (3rd placed both times). The group consists of the members Andreas Lundstedt (who also could be seen in the group Six4One who competed for Switzerland in 2006), Tess Merkel and Lina Hedlund. The two former names are original members of the group. In 2000, Alcazar had international success with the song "Crying at the discoteque".

The song Stay the night is described as a "good party song with some quite unusual harmonies"

BWO  – You’re Not Alone

BWO has taken part in Melodifestivalen three times: MF 2005 (did not get through the semi final), MF 2006 (2nd place, 32 points behind Carola) and MF 2008 (3rd place). The group has charted in both Russia and Ukraine.

The song is described as a "dramatic electro gospel ballad".

Caroline af Ugglas  – Snällä, Snälla

Caroline took part in MF 2007 (did not get through the semi final). Caroline is both artist, singer & choir leader and just about to release a new album.

The song is described as a "soul influences love ballad" (think Janis Joplin!).

Emilia –  You’re My World

Emilia (or Emilia Rydberg as her full name is) never took part in MF before. She has a huge hit in Sweden 1998 with the ballad "Big Big World". The song also topped air playlists in several countries. 

The song is said to be a "celebration to the ones we love and the warmth they give us".

Jennifer Brown – Never Been Here Before

Jennifer never took part in MF before. In the end of the 90’s she had a hit in Sweden with the song "Tuesday Afternoon"

The song described as "the sadest song that Burt Bacharach never wrote".

Lasse Lindh and Band  – Jag Slåss I Dina Kvarter

Lasse Lindh took part in MF 2008 (did not get through the semi final). Lasse had his breakthrough in Sweden 2005 and has enjoyed some chart success since then.

The song is described as a "right-up-in-the-face-song that you can jump with both feet together to".

Måns Zelmerlöw – Hope & Glory

Måns took part in MF 2007 were he finished 3rd with "Cara Mia", the song that can be described as his breakthrough in Sweden. Måns first appearance was in the talent show "Idol 2005". In 2006 he was the winner of the tv-show "Let’s dance". Måns has also done musicals both before and after his MF-appearance.

The song is described as "a hopeful love-anthem, a song that everyone can remember after the first listening".

Sarah Dawn Finer – Moving on

Sarah took part in MF 2007 were she finished 4th with the song "I remember love". Sarah is a singer, songwriter and actor.

The song is described as a "dynamic, dramatic, beautiful epic big and strong song that is hopeful, but also with a bit of melancholy".
