New Eurovision Song Contest Stars to be Born?: Maltese Indipendanza Festival

Konkorz Kanzunetta Indipendenza Festival, which is made for Malta’s Independence Festival, has been a hotbed for finding singers for the Eurovision Song Contest and Malta Song for Europe, which is Malta’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

This year the festival final takes starts on 19th September in Fosos of Floriana . The contest has found many well known singers for the Eurovision Song Contest and Malta Song for Europe.

Miriam Christine, Malta’s 1996 Eurovision Song Contest representative, won the festival in 1998; Claudette Pace, who is the 2000 representative of Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest, won in 1999. In 2001, Ira Losco, who is the represantative of Malta in the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest, won the festival. The 2004 representative of Malta, Ludwig Galea, appeared in the festival alone. Singers such as Rita Pace, Pamela Bezzina, Claudia Faniello, Elanor Cassar (who have taken part in the national selection of Malta for the Eurovision Song Contest) have had success at the festival.

This year the festival will have two different catagories; Prominent Artists and Newcomer Artists. At the end of the final, there will be four prizes which will be given to best third, second and the first songs, an award will go to the public choice winner, which the Maltese have already began televoting for.

The festival will be shown on Net Tv, Malta and the live broadcast will start at 20.30 with Central Europe Time and it will be available to watch from all over the Europe.
