Greece selects Eleftheria Eleftheriou to sing at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest

One of last national finals took place tonight, with the Greek public choosing Eleftheria Eleftheriou to carry their nations hope in Baku in May.  She will perform the song Aphrodisiac.

In this final week of selections, Greek broadcaster ERT gave its viewers the choice of four songs vying for the chance to sing in Azerbaijan.

Our show tonight came from the River West shopping mall in Athens.  To warm us up, we first saw the Düsseldorf of Greece’s song from last year, Watch my danceLoucas Giorgas told us a little about his year.  After several more acts performing their new singles, we had greetings from some performers for te 2012 contest (Nina Zilli, Gaitana and Željko Joksimovič).  We were reminded that the winner would be chosen be a 50/50 combination of jury and televoting.  Then it was onto the songs (which appeared to be mimed)…

DoraBaby I’m yours (Nektarios Tyrakis, Franc, Illias Pantazapoulos) –
Dora was in a short salmon pink dress, and was assisted by four female backing dancers in black.

CassiopeiaKiller bee (Christos Dantis, Leonidas Chatzaras) –
The female trio were all identically dressed in black tops and blue hotpants and high heels.

Velvet FireNo parking (George Samuelson, Leonidas Chatzaras) –
These are  male/female duo, dressed very quirkily.  He in white T-shirt, black jacket and red jeans.  Her in a small red, white and black dress.

Eleftheria EleftheriouAphrodisiac (Dimitris Stassos, Mikaela Stenström, Dajana Lööf) –
Our soloist Elefteria was in a short white dress.  She had four male backing dancers dressed in combinations of black or white T-shirts and blue jeans.

At this point, the now familiar televoting numbers came up as we saw brief reprises of each song.  The venue’s ‘Green Room’ turned out to be a lobby of the shopping mall with extra sofas.

While the televoting was continuing, we had a guest or two.  First on was French entrant Anggun in a very short black dress performing (or maybe miming) Echoes (you and I). Cypriot Ivi Adamou also performed La la love for us, sporting a short silver dress.  Finally, Bulgaria’s Sofi Marinova sang Love unlimited.

The voting was now over, and all that remained was to announce the winner. After a short pause, it was revealed as…
