Fabrizio Faniello returns to the spotlight by winning the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza contest in Malta

Last night the 2013 Konkurs Kanzunetta Indipendenza contest was held in Malta. The contest featured many acts that had previously participated in the Malta Eurosong selections. The winning act was none other than the 2001 and 2006 Eurovision singer Fabrizio Faniello with the song, Aħfirli Jekk Trid.

One of the most important music competitions in Malta with the Eurosong selection is the annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza (KKI) contest.  All the songs are performed in the Maltese language.  The contest normally features many acts who have participated in previous Malta Eurovision national finals.  This year was no exception as it featured acts such as Fabrizio Faniello, Domenique Azzopardi, Danica Muscat, Christian Arding, Neville and Kylie Coleiro.

The 20 finalists were:

The interval acts included last year’s winning KKI act and former Malta Eurosong finalist, Deborah C, and the 2013 Eurovision participant, Gianluca Bezzina.

Domenique Azzopardi took two awards on the night for Best Performance and Top Tele-Voting for her song B’Ħarsitna ‘l Fuq composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and Paul Ellul.  The Teenage Talent prize went to Kimberly & Lyann for their song, Kliem Maġija.  So third place in the KKI went to Nicole Brincat, second place to Neville and grand prize to Fabrizio Faniello and Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Rita Pace and Minik.
