Eurovision acts take the Top 3 positions in the British Official album charts

For all that it is claimed that the United Kingdom doesn’t take Eurovision seriously, in an ironic twist, the top three albums in the British charts this week all have a Eurovision connection.

This week, three new album releases hold the top three places in the U.K album charts and all of them have a Eurovision connection.

Topping the charts is the new album by Westlife called Spectrum. This is the groups 11th album release and their first for nine years. Now Westlife haven’t been in Eurovision, but band member Nicky Byrne represented Ireland in 2016 with the song Sunlight. Nicky failed to make the finals and at the time was not really known for taking any of the lead vocals in Westlife’s records. However he does do some lead vocals on the new album.

Runner up is Celine Dion, the Swiss Eurovision entrant in 1988 with the song Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi. Celine’s 12th English album Courage was expected to top the charts but has been surprisingly beaten by Westlife Her new album is also a bit of a come back as this is her first English language album in six years. With Westlife not being a big name in America, Celine has taken the top slot in the Billboard charts.

Coming in at number three we have Michael Ball who represented the United Kingdom in 1992 with One Step Out Of Time, placing second behind Ireland’s Linda Martin’s Why Me Michael has teamed up with singer Alfie Boe for the third time to release the album Back Together. Their previous two releases topped the charts, but the might of Westlife and Celine Dion makes it unlikely that this will be third time lucky.
