Serbia prepares for two major events in the next two weeks, a pre-term parliamentary election on May 11th and, of course, the Eurovision Song Contest, for which rehearsals start the same day. Carl Bildt and Svante Stockselius discussed safety in relation to Belgrade last night on Swedish TV.
Since the Kosovan government announced it's decision to declare independence from Serbia there has been much unrest in that part of the world. Demonstrations were numerous and Serbs were united in condemnation.
EBU decided to stick with Belgrade as the host city. They believe that with the extra security RTS has guaranteed there wont be any problems in helding the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade - despite the current situation with Kosovo.
The Serbian broadcaster, RTS, announced this evening that their national selection, Beovizja, has been postponed due to the political situation with Kosovo, that Sunday declared themselves independent from Serbia.
It was a coincidence, but couldn’t have been planned better as the Dutch docu-soap with Gerard Joling and Gordon as the main characters started just as I arrived to the Netherlands. I must admit that I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry.

Finally, it seems the BBC is serious about the Eurovision Song Contest. They have always professed to be serious about it and I have been happy to believe them. I’ve never been able to comprehend why they would deliberately want to be embarrassed every year.
