Greece 2015: National final to come soon due to political situation?

The decision of the goverment to speed up the presidential election in the parliament brings general elections in February and maybe a second round in March. That means that NERIT must go through with the national final before the end of January as the next months will be busy with the political agenda in the country.

The 73rd General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union has accepted new Greek state broadcaster NERIT into its ranks as an active member. This means that Greece will now participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, bringing the number of countries so far confirmed for Vienna to 39.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest normally requires that a broadcaster is an active EBU member. In the case of NERIT, the new Greek state broadcaster which participated by special permission in Copenhagen 2014, active membership and in turn eligibility for Eurovision 2015 is expected to be decided by the EBU this Friday.

Time may be running out for the Greek public broadcaster NERIT to persuade the European Broadcasting Union of its eligibility for EBU membership. With the formal deadline to confirm participation having expired today, is it becoming unlikely that the country will be represented in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest?

Three-time Eurovision entrant Anna Vissi celebrated her 40th anniversary in the Greek music industry with a party concert on the island of Mykonos. The event proved a Eurovision fan's delight, featuring, among other Eurovision artists, an eagerly anticipated Conchita Wurst - the current Eurovision winner - who joined pop icon Anna on stage!

This Wednesday, three-time Eurovision entrant Anna Vissi received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton. After the ceremony, Cypriot-born Vissi commented on her upcoming celebratory concert on Mykonos, where she will be joined by 2014 Eurovision winner and fellow Jean Paul Gaultier muse Conchita Wurst.

Yiannis Savvidakis competed against other Eurovision artists such as Eleftheria Eleftheriou and Sophia Vossou (Greece 2012 and 1991 respectively) to win the second series of popular celebrity talent show Your Face Sounds Familiar. In 1989, the artist had represented Cyprus in Eurovision with Apopse As Vrethoume, a duet with Fani Polymeri.

Greece’s Freaky Fortune and RiskyKidd: ‘Conchita sent a big message!’

Despite reaching the final, Greece only managed 20th place in this year's Eurovision Grand Final. Almost a month after the event, Freaky Fortune and RiskyKidd, remain upbeat about their experience and complimentary towards Eurovision 2014 winner, Conchita Wurst.

Chart success for Eurovision songs in Sweden

Last year Emmelie De Forest topped the swedish download charts the week after the Eurovision Song Contest with Margaret Berger and Anouk completing the top 3. This year proves to be another success for the Eurovision participants with the Common Linnets topping the chart ahead of Conchita Wurst.

The Phoenix Rises to Claim Victory for Austria

After a night of tension and close voting, Conchita Wurst representing Austria has won the Eurovision Song Contest, beating The Netherlands into second place. It is the first victory for the country since 1966.
