In the summer of 2008 Russia and Georgia were at war over the regions South-Ossetia and Abkhazia and initially Georgia announced that they wouldn't participate at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest as it was to be held in Russia. Eventually EBU persuaded them to participate. At the Georgian national selection a song titled We don't wanna put in won. It is believed to be mocking the Russian prime minister, Vladimir Putin. This led to EBU asking Georgia to change the lyrics or choose another song.
