This Saturday 6th June, the Swedes will be celebrating their national holiday. There will be various activities from all over Sweden broadcast on SVT, activities such as performances of former participants from Melodifestivalen. There will also be a soccer game where Sweden meets their neighbour Denmark on Saturday night.
In February, someone reported representatives from Swedish broadcaster SVT to the police as he thought that there had been misleading information from SVT considering which rules are used to pick out songs for Melodifestivalen.
Tomorrow the Swedish televoters will decide the first two finalists in Stockholm. The new format that has been introduced for the 2009 semifinals promises even more excitement than in the past years. Eurovisionary gives you an insight into these new rule changes.

SVT has now announced the first eight singers who are going to perform at next years swedish national selection Melodifestivalen. Big and well known names here are Måns Zelmerlöw, BWO and Alcazar.
Swedish broadcaster SVT has now revealed which cities will play host to Melodifestivalen 2009. There are no surprises this year as each of the cities hosted Melodifestivalen semi-finals before.
Swedish broadcaster SVT aims to make a stronger connection between Melodifestivalen and the Eurovision Song Contest. This will bring better promotion for their participants and, hopefully, better results, although Charlotte Perrelli finished 18th despite a big European tour in private jet.
The program for SVT’s popular series of open air sing along concerts offers many familiar names in the 2008 edition, where Arja Saijonmaa, Sanna Nielsen, BWO, Christer Sjögren and Maria Haukaas Storeng are among the many who will be performing at Skansen during the summer.
Serbia prepares for two major events in the next two weeks, a pre-term parliamentary election on May 11th and, of course, the Eurovision Song Contest, for which rehearsals start the same day. Carl Bildt and Svante Stockselius discussed safety in relation to Belgrade last night on Swedish TV.
We now know the result of the four semi finals, and boy was I wrong in my predictions. I made the huge mistake of thinking that the viewer’s would vote exactly like they did last year. Then they voted all the big stars through to the final. But this year something has happened. The big question is what?!

As a Swede, I’m waiting with excitement for the Melodifestivalen season to start. All the artists and composers have been announced, so as of right now we’re just waiting for the party to start.
