Eurovision Song Contest

After Michael von der Heide’s failure in Oslo, Swiss television prepares a new selection procedure for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The Swiss audience shall decide who will represent the country next year in Germany. A decision will be made already in December.

The European Broadcasting Union's Turkish member, TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation), has opened their annual poll that is entitled: 'Who Should Represent Turkey Next Year in Germany?'. It's planned Turkey's participant for Eurovision Song Contest 2011 will be chosen through the result of the poll.

Despite what couldn't have been anything but a disappointing result for Didrik Solli Tangen, the Norwegian representative at this year's contest, he appears to have taken the defeat on the chin, turning the whole experience into something positive.

After eight years in the position as Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest Svante Stockselius has decided that it is time to try something else. He will finish with the up coming Junior Contest and at the end of the year leave his position. It has not yet been decided who will take over after him.

A German victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, and a seemingly likely Austrian entry to the 2011 contest could well have been the final two catalysts that gave Liechtenstein broadcaster 1FLTV the final push needed to submit their application for EBU membership this week.

The excitement was no doubt huge for many when an invitation for an upcoming Eurovision concert was sent to their mailbox from the Norwegian Eurovision Fan Club, OGAE Norway. Excitement quickly turned to disappointment however, when it was announced on Friday that the event organiser had no choice but to pull the plug on the imminent concert.
