2012: Litesound - We are the heroes

Litesound is currently a three-piece band consisting of Belarussian brothers Vladimir and Dmitry Karyakin and Italian Jacopa Massa.  Formed in 2002, the band became the existing line-up in 2006 when Massa joined as a result of the Maiori song festival in Italy.

Even though they have been a band for 10 years, they didn’t cut their first album Going to Hollywood until 2010.  This was accompanied by their only single release Solo per te.

Litesound has attempted to participate in Eurovision for Belarus three times in the past.  In 2006 their song My faith was entered in an internal selection eventually won by Polina Smolova.  In 2008 they were back in a televised selection and finished second to Eurovision finalist Ruslan Alekhno and Hasta la vista.  One year later they were back again, collaberating with singer Dakota, finishing third to Petr Elfimov and Eyes that never lie.

  • About the selection

Belarussian broadcaster BTRC organised their first national final since 2009 with an announcement for songs in November.  A jury then cut down the entries to 15 which would participate in a special semi-final programme Eurofest 2012, to be held in Minsk on 21 December.  Among the participant was Belarus’s 2011 entrant Anastasia Vinnikova.  A 50/50 combination of expert jury and televoting narrowed this field down to five.

BTRC then held a national final on 14 February to decide which of the final five would go on to sing in Baku.  The 50/50 voting split again decided the winner, initially announced as Alena Lanskaya with the song All my life.

However, voting irregularaties were suspected, causing the belarussian president to review the results.  After an enquiry, Alena‘s entry was disqualified and runners-up Litesound were announced as the winners.

  • About the song

This song is about the commitment someone is making when they get into a relationship.  If you both make the commitment, then there’s nothing standing in your way and you never know what you’ll achieve.

  • Lyrics

When the night is falling from the sky
Just keep driving on a highway
When the world is left to ride across
Just keep going, you'll be there someday

You're not alone, we're against them all
Hold on to me, I'll never let you fall
Even if someday our love is gone
    I will not give up

Whatever's standing in my way, we'll make it through the day
'Cause we are the winners, we are the heroes
We're breaking down the walls, we're gathering them all
'Cause we are believers, we are the dreamers

No matter what they say, no matter what they do
I'll make it alright, I'll make it for you
    We're breaking down the walls
    We are the heroes

As I stand beneath the staring sky
I just lose faith in gravity
And it feels like I can learn to fly
Bring to life all my fantasies

You're not alone, we're against them all
Hold on to me, I'll never let you fall
Even if someday our love is gone
    I will not give up

Whatever's standing in my way, we'll make it through the day
'Cause we are the winners, we are the heroes
We're breaking down the walls, we're gathering them all
'Cause we are believers, we are the dreamers

No matter what they say, no matter what they do
I'll make it alright, I'll make it for you
    We're breaking down the walls
We are the heroes, we are the heroes

Whatever's standing in my way, we'll make it through the day
'Cause we are the winners, we are the heroes
We're breaking down the walls, we're gathering them all
'Cause we are believers, we are the dreamers

No matter what they say, no matter what they do
I'll make it alright, I'll make it for you
    We're breaking down the walls
    We are the heroes
