Roman Lob was born in Düsseldorf on July 2nd, 1990. After leaving school he started to work as an industry mechanic. Music has always played a big role in his life. While his grandfather played the organ at the local church, Roman started to sing in the choir of his kindergarten. As he grew up, he started to learn playing the piano.
Since 2005, Roman has been a part of several bands singing either the lead vocals or the drums.
In 2007 he took part in Germany's most successful casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar (Germany searches the super star). He managed to reach the top 20, but then had to leave the show due to a laryngitis.
His breakthrough in Germany was winning of Unser Star für Baku. His entry Standing still topped the online charts of iTunes and Amazon.
After two successful years in the Eurovision Song Contest Germany kept the format "Unser Star für ...". This year they searched their star for Baku. Several castings were held where 20 artists were chosen to perform in the live shows. After seven shows the final took place in Cologne on February 16th. Roman Lob and Ornella de Santis were voted to the final where both performed three songs. The songs Alone and Standing still were performed by both artists while Ornella additionally sang Quietly and Roman Conflicted.
Soon after the performances it was clear that the audience's favourite songs were Quietly and Standing still, so these two entries were voted to the super final. The live voting (i.e. the audience could follow the voting live on screen) was very exciting. Roman Lob finally won with a percentage of 50,7%, while Ornella de Santis got 49,3% of the votes.
