41About the song:
När Jag Blundar (When I Close My Eyes) is an emotional ballad sung in Swedish and it's the second time that Finland will use Swedish for the Eurovision Song Contest. The first time was back in 1990 when the band Beat got the 21st position (out of 22 participating countries) with the song Fri.
About the participant:
Pernilla Karlsson is a 21 young girl. She started to learn piano back in 2006. She won a singing contest with a song in Swedish.
Her song for Bakou is her very first professional project even if she used to sing a lot for her brother Jonas, who is well known in Finland as a composer.
About the selection:
A long process of elimination was the way Finland chose the song for Baku. In the very first round, 12 songs + 3 wild cards were presented to the audience.
Week after week, only the best acts had the right to go on until the Final where 6 songs were in confrontation. The eliminated rounds were very short shows with intimate performances in front of the jury.
