About the song:
Haba Haba was a controversial choice for some this year, as criticism was voiced that the song did not represent the popular music culture of Norway, rather evoking images of the African savannahs and leaning more towards the world music genre. Haba Haba was one of the hot favourites from the very beginning, gaining mass media support and went on to become the biggest hit to emerge from this year's edition of the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix, topping the Norwegian charts even before Stella Mwangi's landslide victory. With its instantly infectious tune, Haba Haba will undoubtedly spread its happy vibe wherever it's performed in Düsseldorf and the appeal of the song is easy to understand, given its positive message about never giving up and taking things little by little.
About the participant:
Already a major star in Africa, Stella is now setting her sights on building herself a career in Norway following her victory at this year's Melodi Grand Prix. Her interest in music started at the age of 6 when seeing Tina Turner for the first time. Raised on a mixture of reggae, world music, gospel and country, Stella later became influenced by hip hop.She has warmed up for Busta Rhymes and has also sung for Nelson Mandela as well as being nominated for a number of music awards, including MTV Africa's Newcomer of the Year in 2009.
About the selection:

With almost 700 submitted entries, this year's edition of the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix was looking stronger and better than ever. An internal selection narrowed it down to 21 competitors spread over 3 qualifying heats. From each heat, the two acts with the most televotes went directly onto the final, and the next two acts in third and fourth place progressed to a second chance round, Siste Sjansen. From here, a final two acts were chosen to complete the line up of the Norwegian final held in Oslo Spektrum on the 12th of February.

8 acts fought for the right to represent Norway in Düsseldorf, and although Stella Mwangi had been a firm favourite from the offset, she was definitely given a run for her money by amongst others, The Blacksheeps. Four acts were revealed as having qualified for the evening's superfinal, with another round of voting ensuing, the final two acts of the four being Sie Gubba and The Lucky Bullets, both making for the biggest suprises on the night.

The interval act was quite subdued this year, compared to previous years, with Didrik Solli Tangen giving a reprise of his winning song from 2010, My Heart Is Yours, which had been given a Gregorian makeover especially for the occasion. NRK chose instead to lavish more of their budget on a spectacular opening act instead, which consisted of a short film with an amusing storyline revolving around
Alexander Rybak and featuring many other former Norwegian participants, including Norway's first entrant, Nora Brockstedt in a tongue in cheek mafioso style role. The film suddenly spilt over onto the stage culminating in some of the artists performing a dance routine.

After the second round of voting, Stella Mwangi was proclaimed the winner by a convincing margin, with over 130,000 votes more than The Blacksheeps who came in second place.

Lyrics:

When as a little girl my grandma told me
That I could be just anything that I wanted to
When as a little girl my grandma told me
That I could be just anything that I wanted to
She said that: Everything I work for, everything I wish for
Everything I look for it is right in front of me
Everything I work for, everything I wish for
Everything I look for it is right in front of me

And she said:
Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba - Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba
Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba - Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba

When as a little girl my grandma told me
That it’s the little things in life that’s gonna make me happy
When as a little girl my grandma told me
That it’s the little things in life that’s gonna make me happy
She said that: Little by little, fills up the measure
Don’t ever give up, keep on moving
Little by little, fills up the measure
Don’t ever give up, keep on moving

Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba - Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba
Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba - Haba Haba, hujaza kibaba
Hujaza kibaba
