Tom Dice, born Tom Eeckhout, was born on 25 November 1989 in Eeklo near the Dutch border.
At age 15 he joined band The Dice (hence his stage name), but soon moved onto the Flanders version of X Factor, finishing second in the competition in 2008. On the back of this, in 2009 Tom released his début single, an acoustic version of Leona Lewis's "Bleeding love". He made No.7 in the Flanders charts.
Tom is currently working on his first album "Teardrops", which was originally due for release last October.
Belgium's entry this year has been selected by the Flemish broadcaster VRT, in accordance with Belgium's policy of alternating their song between the Dutch and French speaking communities. VRT looked for a different approach, bearing in mind Belgium's lack of decent positions in recent years.
On 25 November 2009, VRT announced that is had internally selected Tom Dice to represent Belgium. He would compose a number of songs, one of which VRT would select, again internally.
On 7 March, VRT broadcast an hour long programme "Eurosong 2010: een song voor Tom Dice!", hosted by Bart Peeters. Peeters himself has attempted to sing for Belgium in the 1990s. It was on this programme that Dice performed covers of several songs ("Bleeding love", "Like a virgin"), before presenting the song "Me and my guitar".
"Me and my guitar" is, as the title suggests, a song about Tom looking at life, and hoping that his audience will appreciate his music. He only has his guitar for company, and hopes that this will get him through.
People always say:
"Tom, this has gone too far"
But I'm not afraid to chase my dreams
Just me and my guitar
And no one may ever know
The feelings inside my mind
'Cause all of the lines I ever write
Are running out of time
So maybe I should get a nine to five
But I don't wanna let it go
There's so much more to life
Tell me that I got it wrong
Tell me everything will be okay
Before I fall
And tell me they'll play my songs
Tell me they'll sing the words I'll say
When darkness falls
Then all of the stars will see
Just me and my guitar
Mmm...
I'm sure that I'll find my way
'Cause I'm not afraid to try
But even a world of love and hope
Can't guarantee that price
So maybe I can get a nine to five
But I don't wanna let it go
There's so much more to life
No... tell me that I got it wrong
Tell me everything will be okay
And before I fall
No, no... tell me they'll play my songs
And tell me they'll sing the words I say
When darkness falls
Then all of the stars will see
Just me and my guitar, oh oh...
Me and my guitar, mmm... mmm...
