Which Big4 country will achieve the most points at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest

Four countries are automatically qualified for the final each year as a part of the so-called big4. Over the years we have seen that it has been quite hard for them to achieve top positions, but which of them do you think will do best this year? Vote in the poll to tell us your opinion.

Eurovision contingency

Hi there! As far as I know, the EBU uses two criteria when calculating the contingency fee - the amount each of the big 4 pay is based on the size of the country but also the GNP/BNP (gross national product/brutto national product) of the country in question is taken into consideration.

They are automatically qualified due to them paying more than smaller countries in participation fee - but yes, the reason they pay more is that they are bigger.

Why Turkey, Russia, Ukraine

Why Turkey, Russia, Ukraine or Poland haven't got permanent place in finals then? They are also big countries and probably paying bigger share in cost, right? This rule is rubbish and should be abandoned.

Together the UK, Spain, France and Germany make up around 25% of the total contributions to the EBU. After these four Italy pay the most hence the reason, on their return to the contest, they have been added to now make the big 5. The other countries contributions are minimal in comparison. As the post above has said if two of the original 'big 4' withdraw then the contest would not be able to take place due to lack of funds.
