Kaliopi announced to represent FYR Macedonia in Stockholm

It was announced earlier tonight on FYR Macedonia’s television that the country will be represented by established singer Kaliopi. This will be the third time that the singer will represent her country in Eurovision and fans are in anticipation as to how she is going to follow up her 2012 effort Crno I Belo.

Kaliopi is one of the most popular singers in her native FYR Macedonia and had been internally selected for representing the country in its first attempt in Eurovision back in 1996 with Samo Ti. As it happened, FYR Macedonia failed to qualify from the (non-televised) pre-qualification round that year.

The talented singer appears to be somewhat of a safe choice for MKRTV, the FYR Macedonia’s public broadcaster, nevertheless. When Kaliopi eventually went on to represent the county in Eurovision in 2012, she managed to qualify to the final where she was placed 13th, not only one of the country’s best results so far but also the only time that FYR Macedonia has made it to the final in the last eight years. Having qualified to the final eight times to date, 2016 will mark the country’s seventeenth effort in the Eurovision Song Contest.

MKRTV also announced that their entry will be presented during a special show, expected to be televised in late February. In the meantime, you can enjoy Kaliopi’s previous Eurovision offering, Crno I Belo (Black and White), in the following video from the dress rehearsal for the 2012 Eurovision final.
