Malta to decide Eurovision entry on 8th of February

Malta will select it’s entry for the next Eurovision Song Contest on 8th February 2014. National broadcaster PBS announced the date for the forthcoming national selection better known as the 2014 Malta Eurovision Song Contest. A day before the national final a semi-final show will take place where twenty songs will compete for fourteen final spots.

Malta’s biggest show case will be held on 8th February 2014. On the final night fourteen entries will battle to fly the flag in Copenhagen following a semi-final in which twenty acts will appear on stage.

Last month the national broadcaster received two hundred and ten entries and tomorrow an unspecified number of entries will be announced, on tvm.com.mt at noon, as the ones that will make it to the second phase.

The twenty semi-finalists are expected to be revealed during a prime time TV show on Friday 29th November 2013. So far the national broadcaster (PBS) did not reveal the venue for the Maltese national final but in the past two years the show took place in Malta’s biggest indoor venue i.e. The Malta Fairs & Convention Centre at Ta’ Qali.

Malta debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 and in the last edition Gianluca Bezzina managed to revive the golden years of Malta’s participation in the contest. The Maltese doctor did not only manage to qualify to the final but also received a respectable eighth place.
