Lys Assia´s trip to Malmö cancelled

The grand old lady of Eurovision Lys Assia may not make it to this years Eurovision final in Malmö. The 89 year old singer has been admitted to a private hospital in Zurich with severe pneumonia.

private hospital in Zurich with severe pneumonia.

According to the Swiss press the singer told journalists that she had
never felt so bad and thought that she was "going to die".

Lys Assia who won the first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest back
in 1956 was scheduled to appear as a guest at this years final in Malmö. Unless
her condition improves the doctors have advised her to stay in hospital.

In 2011 Lys Assia also had to spend time in a hospital due to stress
after competing in the Swiss selection.

Lys Assia has now cancelled her trip to Malmö. On her Facebook profile she released the following statement;

Dear Lys Assia fans. We have some very sad news. Our beloved singer is in the hospital at the moment. Her condition is very bad at the moment. Therefor, Lys will have to cancel all her plans. Lys also can’t attend this years Eurovision Song Contest. We hope that you’ll understand. Thank you and pray for Lys! We’ll update this page as soon as we have more news.
