Jason Donovan ‘turned down’ offer to sing for UK at Eurovision

It was claimed today that popular Australian singer and actor, Jason Donovan, was asked to sing for United Kingdom at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest before the selection of Engelbert Humperdinck. The comments were made on a British radio show he was co-hosting on Heart FM station.

Jason Donovan has had many hits in the United Kingdom and around the world since 1988 including four number one hits in the UK, Too Many Broken Hearts, Sealed With A Kiss, Any Dream Will Do and Especially For You in a duet with Kylie Minogue.  Jason became famous by acting in the Australian soap drama, Neighbours.  Last year he finished in third place in the popular BBC show, Strictly Come Dancing

About Eurovision it was reported that Jason said "Unofficially, I was asked this year to represent the UK at Eurovision. They actually came up to me and said would I be interested and I declined. Not because Eurovision is what it is, it’s more about the fact that having just come off Strictly and feeling like I was under a bit of a microscope, I didn’t really want to go through that experience again".

The United Kingdom last week selected Engelbert Humperdinck to sing in Baku.
