Germany – Finalists confirmed for Unser Star für Oslo

Tonight was the semi final of the German selection, Unser Star für Oslo, to find the performer to sing for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in May. 4 acts competed but only 2 will make it to the final on Friday 12 March 2010.

Stefan Raab, the head judge, is this week joined on the jury by Barbara Schöneberger (an all round presenter, comedy actress and singer) and Jan Delay (singer).

So, to the first round of tonight’s performances –

Christian Durstewitz performed I’m Yours from Jason Mraz. Christian gave a lively and passionate performance which the audience loved. But in my opinion I think Christian was trying too hard and sometimes appeared to shout his voice.

Kerstin Freking sang Hands Clean from Alanis Morisette. Kerstin has consistently performed a variety of songs with excellent vocals. Tonight Kerstin reminded me a little of Taylor Swift with her performance.

Lena Meyer-Landrut sang the 2nd Jason Mraz song of the evening, Mr. Curiosity. This showed a different side to Lena. She has normally done uptempo type songs but the song tonight is a ballad and Lena gave a wonderful performance.

Jennifer Braun performed Heavy Cross from Gossip. Jennifer really got the audience going with this rock/dance number. A really powerful performance.

So, now the first round of televoting took place. Through to the phase were Jennifer Braun, Lena Meyer-Landrut and Christian Durstewitz Kerstin Freking is now out of the competition.

Now the 3 remaining singers have to perform another song.

Christian Durstewitz sang In Your Hands by Charlie Winston. This was a better overall performance that Christian’s first song. It was an uptempo song and Christian even got to play a harmonica solo. The audience liked this show from Christian.

Lena Meyer-Landrut performed Lovecats by The Cure. This was back to Lena’s comfort zone. A lively song given her own charming interpretation. The audience were loved this and were stomping their feet. A wonderful performance from Lena.

Jennifer Braun sang Hurt from Christina Aguilera. Jennifer has a very strong voice and really belted out this big Christina ballad. Another fantastic performance. Jennifer really sang her heart out tonight and the audience appreciated this.

The second round of televoting took place whilst Jan Delay performed a song.
