Latvian broadcaster LTV made public both song titles and composers of all qualifying entries for next year's national selection this afternoon, with some familiar names making an appearance and raising expectations.
With a results drought of 4 years and counting and dwindling interest in the contest on a national level, Latvian broadcaster LTV decided to amend participation rules once more and allow overseas composers to compete for the first time in four years. This resulted in a bumper crop of entries, but will it help increase Latvian interest in the contest?

It’s that time of year again! The first semi-final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is almost upon us and speculation is rife as to which ten songs will reach the final on Saturday. Never one to miss the opportunity to give my opinion, here are my thoughts.
Thursday was a very busy day in Baku, with fourteen countries from the first semi-final completing their solo rehearsal schedule and conducting their second press conferences.

After months of concern that the Crystal Hall would not be ready in time to host the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, today saw the opening day of rehearsals and press conferences in the land of fire and ice.
Next on stage was Latvia's Anmary who sang her Beautiful Song for the first time in Baku. The Baltic country has not reached the final since 2008. Will Anmary make it this year with her quirky and memorable song? After her magnificent rehearsal, anything is possible.
