Dima Bilan or Elena Paparizou?

On 5th October 2009 in Berlin, the MTV European Music Awards was held. Two of the most famous Eurovision singers, Dima Bilan and Elena Paparizou were nominated for Best European Act, Russian and Greek. In the voting, Dima Bilan took a better place then Elena Paparizou. But, the winner is......

The MTV Europe Music Awards were established by MTV Europe Networks. Everything started in 1994, and up to now, there are some artists who have won a lot of the awards. With the most awards is Eminem with nine, then Britney Spears with seven. Five awards have been won by Dima Bilan, Justin Timberlake, Muse, The Prodigy, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park, Backstreet Boys, Madonna and Robbie Williams. Coldplay have won four, Limp Bizkit, Spice Girls, Jennifer Lopez, Kane, Oasism Justice and 30 seconds to Mars all have three.

For the best European Act this year are nominated Finnish rock band Deep Insight, Russian pop artist Dima Bilan, Polish singer Doda, Italian pop rockers Lost and Turkish rock band MaNga.

Elena Paparizou was also one of the nominated acts as a Greek artist for the song Tha'mai aillos. She is very well known as a Eurovision diva because she won the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest with song My Number One. Also, she was a part of Greek band Antique, after which, she decided to start solo career.

Dima Bilan (Viktor Nikolaevich Belan) is a Russian artist. In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, he won the award for the Best Russian Artist on MTV. For the Eurovision audience, he is firstly famous for performing the song Never Let You Go in 2006. Two years later in Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, he won with the song Believe, and become one of the most famous singers not only in Europe, but also in other continents. On November 15th 2006, Dima received the award for Best Selling Russian Artist and performed at the World Music Awards in London, along with Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado and Bob Sinclar.

For 2009, he prepared a song called Changes for his new album Amnesia, and he was one of the nominated artists for awards again. When the voting stopped and the show started, Dima Bilan didn't get his award.

Turkish band maNga beat him and won the award for Best European Act. In their country, they won the award for Best Turkish Band, and these guys are playing alternative music with a hip hop sound.

The winners are: Best Song: Beyonce - Halo. Best Group: Tokio Hotel, Best New Act: Lady Gaga, Best Famale: Beyonce. Best Male: Eminem. Best Urban: Jay-Z. Best Rock: Green Day. Best alternative: Placebo. Best Push Artist: Pixie Lott. Best World Stage Live Performer: Linkin Park. Best Live Act: U2
